Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins, which have a variety of important functions in the human body – including growing our muscles. Nine of the amino acids cannot be produced by our body and need to be ingested through food on a regular basis. Only when all nine essential amino acids are present in sufficient amounts, muscle protein synthesis (resulting in muscle growth) can take place! L-glutamine is classified as a semi-essential amino acid, which means that our body can produce it on its own, but its own synthesis is insufficient under certain conditions (e.g. during intense physical training). Food supplements are convenient way for athletes and physically active people to optimize their diet and physical performance.
